Sage Pesto? Challenge Accepted
Is it just me or do a lot of people these days not know how to cook!? We all love to eat, but not everyone knows how to cook. Sure, we might just be “too busy” and have better things to do but growing up, I watched my mom make delicious homemade food and it was in college when I faced the cruel fact that nothing compares to the food she made with love. Ever since, I have made it my own personal goal to cook at least one meal a week in an effort to be healthier if not to become half the cook my mom is.
If you follow me on instagram you’ve probably seen a lot of food photos. Well, believe it or not, it’s all food I’ve cooked or made whether it be baked goodies, korean food or random dishes. I’ve been getting pretty good at it if I do say so myself even though I have a long way to go. Turns out the photos don’t just look good, the food also tastes good- Just ask the people I’ve shared it with
When I go out to eat or see photos of food elsewhere, I usually plan on trying to make it myself- especially from scratch with very little shortcuts. Recently I saw that Urban Girl Squad announced a Sage Pesto cooking contest so of course, because of my competitive nature and desire to try and learn new things, I accepted the challenge. I did make walnut basil pesto not too long ago and it turned out delicious… so sage pesto- pft, easy. Why not?

The Foods we ate in NY- adventure week continued
So after our little adventure to the Brooklyn Bridge, I took my sister to Chinatown (one of my favorite places in New York), to eat some of my favorite foods that she’s never tried before. It’s only natural that after some adventure she tries new foods too, don’t you think? Besides, getting bullied by the weather and walking quite a bit is EXHAUSTING- we were starving.
She liked everything I made her try; I’m glad she’s not such a picky eater. Seeing the look on her face change from reluctance to pure excitement and finally satisfaction was probably one of the most gratifying (not to mention hilarious) experiences.
Here is our adventures in food for the short time she was here. A great week of firsts! (read to a see a lot more photos!)
Xiao Long Bao (小笼包), soup dumplings and scallion pancakes.
Dumplings that not only have a delicious filling but a warm soup inside. It was perfect for the weird weather day.
Macaron Day NYC
When I found out that March 20 was Macaron day NYC, I got really excited for a moment but then realized that I probably would not be able to participate in its yummy goodness because of classes and meetings I had scheduled for the day. Still, I shared the link on Facebook so that even though I couldn’t take part, at least other people could. Others also expressed interest and excitement for these delightful french cookies, especially those who weren’t in New York. That’s when it struck me: I’m really lucky to be here in New York where celebrations and events like this happen often and it’s usually just a train ride away.
So, even though I came home late from a long day the night before, I was determined to visit as many of the participants as I could in the morning, before my day officially began at 9 am.
Macaron lovers, those not in New York and those who missed out because of work, this is for you!
CNY Brunch at Bloomie’s
One lovely Sunday morning (February 10) amidst Fashion Week events and after the blizzard Nemo hit, I had the privilege of attending a private fashion brunch at Bloomingdale’s to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
(See more photos after the jump!)
Things I love (yes, love)
(Not in particular order of course)
Macarons.
More often than not, I am buying them for other people. In fact, the first time I ever bought them was for someone else. Once I finally got some for myself I was hooked. Not only are they pretty, they are colorful and just the right amount of sweet for me.

Chop Chop
I’m a salad fiend so the other day I thought I’d try to make a different kind of salad, inspired by Whole Foods. Result: I made what could roughly estimate to be about a weeks worth of detox salad: a light and energizing salad that is vegan, gluten-free, oil-free, soy-free. Ingredients and better pictures here
I’m not vegan by any means and I don’t usually like broccoli and cauliflower raw but this salad was enjoyable and filling. Saves me the trip to Whole Foods and as you can see I had maybe a bit too much fun with my new food processor.
It gives me a boost of energy and leaves me feeling satisfied even though the portion seems small.
Ok maybe it looks like rabbit food but eating healthy tastes/feels so good
