I am brave enough
As part of her Brave Enough Tour, Sara Bareilles asked fans and instagrammers alike to fill out a postcard.
I haven’t been paying much attention to her music lately (Remember Love song and Gravity?) but that didn’t matter. I saw this on my newsfeed and it caught my eye.
This is what I filled out:
As graduation is here and I enter the real world, I will remind myself to be brave enough in whatever I do as hard as it may be. This goes back to one of my new year’s resolutions of doing the harder thing.
What are you brave enough to do?

Front Row at MOCA NYC
Just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Canal Street in Chinatown you’ll find a quieter street with a hidden gem: MOCA NYC.

Back in January, I visited MOCA for the first time to attend a panel, “Female, Fashionable, New York“, to hear perspectives of three Asian American women in the Fashion industry. This is when I found out that MOCA would have two upcoming fashion exhibitions:

On my mind: 2 H’s
Currently on my mind: Heart and Humanism. Thinking about how this plays in the work I do, the person I am, the life i want to lead.
I realize it’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged (I’ll explain later) and it’s mainly because the two H’s: heart and humanism, have taken over the majority of my thought processes.
Still figuring things out.
Happy Monday!

Talking with Tao Okamoto, model
I had the special opportunity to interview Tao Okamoto the other day for a freelance assignment. At first, when the person called me to do this the name didn’t register, but when I started to prepare for the interview I realized “DUH, TAO OKAMOTO!”
She’s the established Japanese model who you’ve probably seen gracing countless runways, covers of Vogue, editorials and ad campaigns. Many of you might know of the “bowl” hair cut she sported towards the beginning of her career.

30 day challenge
In about a month from today, I will be graduating from college, ending a four-year long journey. I’ve known that this was coming but as it comes closer and closer I find myself feeling a storm of excitement, anxiety and expectation. Whenever I feel like this I tend to start reading articles or turn to TED talks for some perspective. (does anyone else do this? let me know!)
Yesterday, I spent a chunk of time watching the whole “A Better You” playlist of TED talks (found here) for some much needed reassurance and advice. Some of these videos I’ve already seen many times. Many were new to me. All were good as usual.
Pairing the inspiration and information I got after watching these videos and the sobering realization that my academic career is reaching its end, I got an idea: “You have a month to make things happen. Let’s do it”
So… For the next 30 days there are 3 things that I will do everyday, inspired by the talks in the playlist.
Sage Pesto? Challenge Accepted
Is it just me or do a lot of people these days not know how to cook!? We all love to eat, but not everyone knows how to cook. Sure, we might just be “too busy” and have better things to do but growing up, I watched my mom make delicious homemade food and it was in college when I faced the cruel fact that nothing compares to the food she made with love. Ever since, I have made it my own personal goal to cook at least one meal a week in an effort to be healthier if not to become half the cook my mom is.
If you follow me on instagram you’ve probably seen a lot of food photos. Well, believe it or not, it’s all food I’ve cooked or made whether it be baked goodies, korean food or random dishes. I’ve been getting pretty good at it if I do say so myself even though I have a long way to go. Turns out the photos don’t just look good, the food also tastes good- Just ask the people I’ve shared it with
When I go out to eat or see photos of food elsewhere, I usually plan on trying to make it myself- especially from scratch with very little shortcuts. Recently I saw that Urban Girl Squad announced a Sage Pesto cooking contest so of course, because of my competitive nature and desire to try and learn new things, I accepted the challenge. I did make walnut basil pesto not too long ago and it turned out delicious… so sage pesto- pft, easy. Why not?

This word means different things to different people. It might be just a name to you. It might conjure up images of that bear from that movie I never saw.

For me, it means

You know, those short interesting, inspiring, educational videos that teach, show and tell you about awesome things. (Some of my personal favorites: Brene Brown, Simon Sinek, Derek Sivers)
I had the opportunity to attend the inaugural TEDxTimesSquare (post on that coming soon) and needless to say, I was SUPER excited. The only problem was, I didn’t know what to wear! After considering different outfits, I decided to go with a T(ee) for TEDx to achieve the perfect balance of dressy casual, “business” fashionable.
On my radar: must-have flat for Spring
With the weather finally waking and warming up, I’m so excited to be able to wear flats again and put away those boots after all those months! Time for cute fun footwear!
If there’s one thing I need and recommend for Spring, it’s D’orsay flats. In the fall I was obsessed with my foot cleavage booties, so it only makes sense I have a Spring version!

Designer Jenni Kayne is the one who started this footwear trend ( you can see her extensive collection of D’orsay flats here) but I’m still a student and refuse to spend $400+ on shoes unless it’s my own money so here are some D’orsay alternatives I found that have both the option of price and color/design.
I say, you say, we all say D’orsay!

Only in New York.
So it’s evident my sister and I ate a lot during spring break BUT we also did explore and walk a lot. I think the best way to get to know a city is to get lost in it so that’s exactly what we did- we explored every nook and cranny of New York (something I usually do anyway). When you take the time to walk around you see things you would usually miss if you took a cab or subway. We must’ve visited every neighborhood in fact and to think we did all of this in just about 4 days…
Let me show you sides of New York you might not have seen before. The places I showed my sister so that she could fall in love with New York as much as I have (and she’s not a city girl.) They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here they are:

The Foods we ate in NY- adventure week continued
So after our little adventure to the Brooklyn Bridge, I took my sister to Chinatown (one of my favorite places in New York), to eat some of my favorite foods that she’s never tried before. It’s only natural that after some adventure she tries new foods too, don’t you think? Besides, getting bullied by the weather and walking quite a bit is EXHAUSTING- we were starving.
She liked everything I made her try; I’m glad she’s not such a picky eater. Seeing the look on her face change from reluctance to pure excitement and finally satisfaction was probably one of the most gratifying (not to mention hilarious) experiences.
Here is our adventures in food for the short time she was here. A great week of firsts! (read to a see a lot more photos!)
Xiao Long Bao (小笼包), soup dumplings and scallion pancakes.
Dumplings that not only have a delicious filling but a warm soup inside. It was perfect for the weird weather day.
