In about a month from today, I will be graduating from college, ending a four-year long journey. I’ve known that this was coming but as it comes closer and closer I find myself feeling a storm of excitement, anxiety and expectation. Whenever I feel like this I tend to start reading articles or turn to TED talks for some perspective. (does anyone else do this? let me know!)
Yesterday, I spent a chunk of time watching the whole “A Better You” playlist of TED talks (found here) for some much needed reassurance and advice. Some of these videos I’ve already seen many times. Many were new to me. All were good as usual.
Pairing the inspiration and information I got after watching these videos and the sobering realization that my academic career is reaching its end, I got an idea: “You have a month to make things happen. Let’s do it”
So… For the next 30 days there are 3 things that I will do everyday, inspired by the talks in the playlist.
1) Every morning, I will spend 10 minutes doing absolutely nothing. I will sit up and not think about the things I need to do or what I’m going to wear. I will just sit, breathe and smile, soaking in the “awesomeness” that is me. These will be the 10 mindful minutes I have to myself before I start a busy day. This will be the 10 minutes of calm where I have everything exactly how I want it.
2) Matt Cutts talks about how if you want to try something new, you should do it for 30 days. Well, in my case it isn’t exactly doing something new but doing things long enough to build a success habit. Starting today I will do the squats that I have avoided doing for so long. No more excuses. Besides who doesn’t want a nice toned bottom half?
3) I will eat breakfast every morning. Sometimes I don’t eat enough, sometimes I skip a day. For the next 30 days, there will be something substantial in my stomach no matter how busy or tired I am, everyday.
3 things for 30 days. Should be easy right?
In the summer when I started this blog I wrote a post called “Non negotiables” which describes the 5 things I plan to do to get the most out of this year and myself. Although a lot of those goals are very much ingrained into my daily life now, some, like blogging everyday, are just not possible no matter how I try.
These 3 things however are non-negotiables. I’m expecting huge changes in my overall attitude, energy/stress levels and muscle tone.
Join me in doing something for the next 30 days and join me in making something happen day by day, one step at a time.
