It was pouring (still) when my friend and I got to John Hancock Tower in Boston for the Women In Business and Make it Happen Magazine Kickoff Party (9/28/12). This was a small get together with just a fraction of the attendees before the actual convention. Here, I was able to meet some lovely ladies/peers (details in upcoming posts-stay tuned). It was amazing to see so many women come together on a Friday night, horrible weather and all, to celebrate young women in business. Cheers to that!
Overall I had a great time but I would have to say the highlight of the night was hearing about Levo League.
(Read more after the jump)
At one point between all the mingling, tweeting, photo taking and mocktails, one of the founders of Levo League, Amanda Pouchot, took the microphone to say a few words.
She explained what Levo League was. Simply put, Levo, a Latin word, means “to smooth, polish, or otherwise improve” and is the root of the word “elevate,” which captures the company’s mission for the young professional. It’s an online destination built by Gen Y women (and some lovely men) for Gen Y women to help transition Gen Y’ers in the “real world”. A destination for personal and professional enhancement and success.
As a millenial and someone writing a blog called “inbusinessandlife” this mission obviously resonated with me.
Amanda shared with us 4 reminders. To sum it up:
1- Be Excellent
2- Be your #1 Fan
3- Get comfortable being uncomfortable
4-Find a mentor
I couldn’t help but take notes. In fact if I hadn’t written them down, I wouldn’t have remembered.
I also really liked their logo. Like i always say (flashback to this summer in california)
Nowhere else to go but up, over and forward.
I couldn’t wait to get back and check out their website, especially their job listing. Needless to say, I joined Levo League (sounds empowering, right?) and I’m looking forward to what they have in store for the future!
In the meantime, I have the Levo League bookmark I got from the event to remind me: “Become your best self”
Stay tuned for updates on the rest of the weekend- this is just the beginning! The best is yet to come.
