Whenever Thursday and Friday rolls around, I can’t help but be struck by a bit of nostalgia with all the “#TBT” (ThrowbackThursday) and “#FBF” (flashbackfriday) posts I see on instagram.
Today I randomly thought of that time I was waiting for my friend to come meet me in front of the Forever 21 in Causeway bay, Hong Kong when I was visiting back in January.
She was running late so I waited outside as thousands of people, dozens per minute passed by me.
I couldn’t help but think: There are so so so many people. So many people in Asia. Some many people here! What makes me different? What makes me special?
Before I had a mini existential crisis, my friend arrived, cutting my train of thought.
I thought about it for awhile when I realized (and this is what I have typed in my iphone memos):
What makes you different than all of these people and everyone around you is what’s inside of you. Your inner being. Your thoughts. Your will. Your attitude. Your personality. Your hopes. Your dreams. Your fears.
There is no one who thinks exactly. like. you do.
You might not be able to control your appearance. Your blood. Your circumstances but what you can control is who you hang out with. What you are influenced by. What you read. What you do. Who and what you spend your time with. How you react.
So calm down. Breathe. Relax. Know more so you can do more.
Everyone has something to bring to the table. You are unique.
In all the world. There is no one exactly like you and there is someone who appreciates you for you besides yourself, of course.
YOU, yes you….You are you and being you isn’t so bad.
Be the most awesome you that you can be.
