My first art gallery experience in LA! The Street Art House x Paper and Fabric

Wherever there is street art, I’ll be there.

I mean, I snap photos of it wherever I spot it (as you’ve probably seen on Instagram) so when I found out that there was going to be a street art pop up gallery, of course I had to go. Last night I went to the inaugural opening reception of The Street Art House which featured 8 fascinating artists, including Christina Angelina, Rolland Berry, Calen, FISHE, Hagop, Colette Miller, VALØR and Wrdsmth…and I couldn’t have had a better time. I was super excited to see street art displayed in a gallery, as public art is usually well… in the public. Its presence in a gallery shows how much it has evolved and how important/ influential it’s become in Los Angeles- and dare I say the all over the world!

I invited a few friends who I thought would enjoy the event and I’m so glad I was able to share this with them. One was a fellow street art enthusiast (@jorda_b)!

She got to meet Colette Miller, the street artist behind the wings you might have seen around LA!!  %image_alt%

This was opening reception was particularly memorable not only because it was a pop up gallery, but also because there was an online art auction sale, along with prints and t-shirts available for purchase- and an awesome DJ.

It was amazing getting to see this art up close, meeting some of the artists and getting to be in the same space as people who had the same interests.

And to top it off?

The pop-up gallery will also support a great local organization: LA’s BEST, a leading provider of after school enrichment programs to under-served elementary public school students in Los Angeles, serving about 25,000 students at 195 public school sites. Art is a major component of their after school programs, which facilitate learning and creativity in a fun environment.

Here are some of my favorites from the opening last night.

Can you tell I’m a bit obsessed with wrdsmith?

His stuff speaks to me, and it should- turns out that he moved to LA like I did and his work reflects things he wished people would have said to him when he first moved here.

Couldn’t have asked for a better first art gallery experience in my first few months in LA. Thanks to those I got to share it with!
