Last night, the Global CEO of Chanel, Maureen Chiquet, was speaking at an event at the Asia Society (See previous post or click here). That being said, it’s only natural I wanted to dress like and channel my inner (Coco) Chanel- simple. effortless. chic.
Chanel is known for many things: tweed, quilted bags and the No 5 fragrance to name a few- but her name is synonymous with the little black dress. Since I have yet to find a tweed jacket that I both like and find flattering, for this event I opted for a little black dress but with a twist of course- the twist being the shoulder slit.
The dress is actually a bit too large for me at the moment since I’ve lost some weight recently so I put on a skinny belt to create a blouson effect. Since it’s jersey fabric, it’s easy to style and manipulate with all sorts of belts. The jersey fabric also makes it easy to maintain and pack for travel. I’m not really a fan of belts nor do I usually need one, but the one type I do think is a must have for any wardrobe is the skinny belt. I topped the outfit off with a simple necklace as a point of interest, to accessorize what would be an otherwise plain outfit and I paired it with my foot cleavage booties since it was a bit rainy outside.
The shoulder slit makes for an interesting more youthful look and makes it playful yet professional enough to work for both this business event and whatever else.
I don’t own anything Chanel since I’ve promised myself to wait til I can buy it with my own money once I graduate and become a working “grown up” but that doesn’t mean I can’t be classy and fabulous in other ways, right? 😛
